Attorney General
issued an Advisory Letter as to whether hearing aid specialists licensed

Exam Prep
Workshop requirement has been rescinded. The Board will no longer offer a
workshop prior to each exam. All
information is posted on the website under “Exam Issues.”

ONLINE RENEWAL AND PAYMENT
OPTIONS
The Board has approved an online renewal option that will allow licensees
to complete an electronic application and make payment by ACH debit. Details will be posted by January
17, 2012. Continue to monitor
the website for updates about this process.

Legislation
revising Chapter 93D of the North Carolina General Statutes will affect
some licensees:
On June 27,
2011, the Governor signed a law passed by the House and Senate that exempts
a person with a license from the North Carolina Board of Examiners for
Speech and Language Pathologists and Audiologists AND a doctoral degree in
Audiology from the licensing requirements of NCGS 93-D.

The Governor
recently appointed two new board members:
Dr.
Calhoun Cunningham and Mr. Mark Stuemke

BACKGROUND CHECK REQUIRED FOR ALL NEW
APPLICATIONS (Effective July 1, 2009)
As part
of the application process, the Board now requires that a background check
be completed through CertifiedBackground.com, and the password for results
be submitted to the Board office.

APPRENTICESHIP REQUIREMENTS AFTER FAILING
THE LICENSING EXAM
The
Board has revised the internal policies that affect apprenticeships. If your apprenticeship was renewed
after failing the exam, please review these policies to be sure you are in
compliance prior to applying for licensure and registering for the next

MAILING ADDRESS
Please note
that in order to avoid delays all mail should be sent to the current
mailing address, as posted in the section “Contact Us” on this
website. Please also inform the
accounting department in your office of this change, as they may have the
old address stored to auto-fill in checks.

Committee on Investigations: NEW FORMS available
Complaint/Inquiry
Form: to be used to submit a Complaint for
consideration by the Committee.
Designation of
Respondent: allows a
licensee to authorize someone else to provide a response to the Committee
on his/her behalf if a letter is received regarding an advertising violation
or other misconduct. PLEASE NOTE: Pursuant to 21 NCAC 22L .0101(b) a response from the accused party shall be filed
within 20 days of receipt of the notification of charges. The Designation of Respondent form
may be submitted when one licensee is responding on behalf of others, in
lieu of having all individuals sign the written response. The Committee expects a written
response or the submission of the Designation of Respondent form from each
licensee who receives a letter alleging misconduct.
